Walkabout features several scenes of animal hunting and killing, most notably a kangaroo being speared and bludgeoned to death. The Cinematograph Films (Animals) Act 1937 makes it illegal in the United Kingdom to distribute or exhibit material where the production involved inflicting pain or terror on an animal. Since the animals did not appear to suffer or be in distress the film was deemed to not contravene the Act. The film also includes scenes of nudity featuring Jenny Agutter, who the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) surmised was 17 years old at the time of filming. The scenes did not pose a problem when submitted to the BBFC in 1971 and later in 1998; since the Protection of Children Act 1978 permitted the distribution and possession of indecent images of people over the age of 16 the issue of potential indecency had not been considered on previous occasions. However, the Sexual Offences Act 2003 raised the age threshold to 18 which meant the BBFC was required to consider the scenes of nudity in the context of the new law when the film was re-submitted in 2011. The BBFC reviewed the scenes and deemed them not to be "indecent" and passed the film uncut. Had this not been the case, the film would have been refused classification and it would have effectively made it illegal to distribute copies of the film. [1]

This is an excellent example of neoliberalism, multiculturalism, diversity(one way that is) and ahistoricism from many “so-called” Blacks the effort to implicitly dismantle the HBCUs in the 21st century to placate the White established order in this country. The title alone should be viewed as an explicit attack (or, shall I say in academic parlance, the “cueing of messages”) on the Black community. That said, the Black people(., degree holding or not) from the community who really have our own “best interests” should publicly respond accordingly to those who are even conceptualizing even the idea of dismantling the need for HBCUs. Further, such persons should be viewed as an enemy to the collective Black community and should be immediately extricated from our community and only allowed when they publicly repent of their communal crimes. Final point, you would never hear any of these so-called Blacks, neoliberal, conservative Whites, Latinos, Asians, Jews, etc… ever say that one should get rid of Brandies University, Jeshiva University, the University of Notre Dame, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, or NYU. In other words, see my point!

Claude Neal was 23 — a farmhand in Jackson County, Fla., who in 1934 was accused of raping and killing his white boss’s 20-year-old daughter, Lola Cannady. He was moved from jail to jail so white lynch mobs wouldn’t find him before the trial. But eventually they tracked him down in Alabama, holding the jailer at gunpoint and absconding with Neal. The news of his capture attracted a bloodthirsty crowd of as many as 3,000. Lest a riot ensue and someone get hurt — someone besides Neal — he was lynched by a group of six, who then dragged him behind a car to the Cannadys’ farm, where Lola’s family members took turns slashing and shooting his corpse. Onlookers stabbed at it, spit on it, ran their cars over it. His body was then driven back to town and strung up in an oak so that the full mob could have its way. People skinned him. His fingers were cut off and, eventually, jarred. He was set on fire.
